Economically Transforming the Lives of Women

Over 70% of women in rural Uganda work in informal, low-income jobs without skills or capital.

Many mothers want their children to stay in school and succeed, but financial challenges often make it difficult to consistently pay school fees, buy scholastic materials, or meet other education needs. When income is unstable, children are at risk of missing classes or dropping out of school.

Our Women Economic Empowerment program focuses on supporting mothers with practical financial solutions that help them keep their children in school while strengthening their own economic stability.

We work closely with schools and communities to identify mothers who share a common challenge—struggling to keep their children in school due to financial limitations. Instead of facing these challenges alone, we bring these women together to support each other through school-based village saving groups.

These groups create a safe and supportive environment where mothers can save money regularly, access small loans, and build financial resilience.

We partner with schools to establish village savings groups directly within the school community. This approach makes it easier for mothers to meet regularly and stay connected to their children’s education.

Each group meets weekly at the school to:

  • Save small amounts of money consistently

  • Build a shared savings fund

  • Access small loans from the group when needed

  • Support one another in managing financial challenges related to education

Through regular savings and access to small loans, mothers are able to pay school fees on time, purchase scholastic materials, and invest in small income-generating activities.

By empowering mothers economically, we help families become more financially stable and capable of supporting their children’s education.

The program helps to:

  • Reduce school absenteeism caused by unpaid fees

  • Prevent children from dropping out of school

  • Strengthen collaboration between schools and parents

  • Build confidence and financial independence among women

When women have access to financial tools and collective support, entire families benefit. Mothers gain confidence in managing their finances, children remain in school, and communities become stronger.

Our goal is to ensure that no child misses out on education simply because their family cannot afford the costs of schooling.
